Farrellphotographic is involved with the educational community in two ways: as an English Language Learner teacher In St. Paul Public Schools’ Como Park Elementary School, Margaret Leslie Farrell uses photography weekly to document and record students’ learning activities. These images are then used for speaking and writing activities to enable English language development. Images are incorporated into Writers’ Workshop writing assignments and into class books. All literacy skills and standards are involved with the photographs: listening, speaking, writing, and reading.

In addition, Farrellphotographic has been selected as the Community Partner to participate in an exciting new two-year grant from the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Tom and Margaret Farrell will photograph students and staff as they participate in field trips at the Arboretum which are coordinated with school curriculum lessons, and selecting appropriate plants and trees for the school courtyard yet to be developed. The culmination of the partnership will occur when students, parents, and staff plant the courtyard with plants learned about as a result of the grant.
